For many families, access to fresh, nutritious foods can be a challenge. Through support from a Variety grant, Iowa Healthiest State Initiative’s Produce Prescription Program is helping children and families build healthier habits by connecting them with fresh fruits and vegetables, nutrition education, and support from their healthcare providers.

The Produce Prescription Program brings together healthcare and nutrition to help families make meaningful changes that can improve their overall health. During clinic visits, participating families receive produce vouchers along with education and encouragement to make healthier food choices at home.

For one family, the program has already made a lasting impact. A participant’s guardian shared that their daughter has made great progress, including eating more green vegetables and fruit while lowering her A1C levels.

I am very grateful to be a part of the Healthy Eating Program at your clinic. This program has made a positive impact on my life by teaching me healthier eating habits and helping me make better choices for my overall health.
