Last year at Spirits of Spring, guests witnessed a life-changing moment as 10-year-old Emmie received her brand-new adaptive stroller.
Emmie is a vibrant 4th grader full of personality who loves being read to and spending time with her family. Because of her low muscle tone, uneven terrain can be challenging in her wheelchair - but her adaptive stroller has opened the door to new adventures. From crushed gravel trails to prairie paths, Emmie can now explore places that once felt out of reach.
“Emmie’s adaptive stroller has made traveling and exploring so much easier. It provides the support she needs on bumpier routes and compacts quickly, which helps since we don’t yet have an accessible van. We’ve taken it on family trips to Decorah and Columbia, to School of the Wild at Lake MacBride, and to our favorite spot - Kent Park in Tiffin. She’s now too big to carry on our backs, and this equipment has allowed us to keep including her in the outdoor adventures we love."

Because of donations made during Spirits of Spring, Emmie isn’t sitting on the sidelines - she’s exploring nature, traveling with family, and making memories.
On April 30, Spirits of Spring Presented by Hy-Vee will once again feature a special bike presentation to a child living with special needs. Join us to witness that unforgettable moment of joy, enjoy wine, beer, liquor, and appetizers from local vendors, and help raise the funds that make stories like Emmie’s possible.
Purchase your tickets today and give a child the gift of freedom, mobility, and pure joy.
