At last year’s Spirits of Spring event, 15-year-old Cameron received something life-changing — his very own specialized adaptive bike!
Cameron has cerebral palsy and spends much of his day in a wheelchair. While his wheelchair provides essential mobility, his adaptive bike offers something more: freedom. The freedom to move. The freedom to explore. The freedom to ride alongside friends and family.
"This bike gives him freedom of movement in a way that traditional wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment can’t. It gives him so much confidence and a sense of independence. His cerebral palsy forces him to rely on others for so much assistance, so any opportunity he has to gain independence is such a blessing. As a family, a bike creates so many more opportunities for us to make memories together."

This February, Cameron’s mom shared another update:
“Cam truly loves his adaptive bike that was donated through Variety. It has given him a level of freedom he doesn’t often get while spending much of his day in a wheelchair. Riding helps improve his range of motion, but more importantly, it allows him to be outside, enjoy the fresh air, and experience the simple joy of movement. You can see the happiness on his face every time he rides - especially when he gets to pick up a little speed. He absolutely loves to go fast, and this bike has brought him so much confidence and joy. We are forever grateful to Variety.”

What means just as much to Cameron’s family is Variety’s continued support as he grows. He had an adaptive bike when he was younger but eventually outgrew it.
