At Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland, summer and after-school programs provide youth with a safe, affordable place to learn, grow, and thrive outside of school hours. Each day, Club members participate in programming focused on academic achievement, healthy lifestyles, and character and leadership development - ensuring every child has access to opportunities that support their future success.

Thanks in part to Variety funding, the Club was able to complete a transformational renovation of its outdoor Playscape. The upgraded space now includes new jungle gym equipment, a bonded rubber pathway for improved accessibility, a shaded structure, and a brand-new outdoor basketball court. These enhancements have significantly expanded both the reach and impact of outdoor programming.

The Playscape is a vital part of the Club’s healthy living initiatives, and the improvements mean more children can participate than ever before. The addition of the bonded rubber pathway has been especially meaningful, allowing children with mobility challenges to safely join their peers in outdoor play, something that was not possible before the renovation.

Basketball has been central to the Club since its founding in 1968, but until now, it had never had a dedicated outdoor court. That has changed in a big way. The new court has quickly become a favorite gathering place, bringing energy, excitement, and connection to daily programming. Alex, a 10-year-old Club member, is one of many benefiting from the new space. He spends time on the court every day after school. For Alex, having a place to enjoy the sport he loves outdoors has made his Club experience even more meaningful.

I love being able to play basketball with my friends. The new court is so cool and I love playing hoops outside.

Jada, who has attended the Club for three years, also finds joy in the expanded Playscape.

With this renovation complete, the outdoor space has become more inclusive, more engaging, and more impactful, creating daily moments of joy, movement, and connection for the kids who call the Club their second home.

The monkey bars are my favorite thing to do outside. There’s so much more for me and my friends to do on the Playscape now and I’m so happy we have all the new fun things.
