Round up at your local Fareway in July to support Variety – the Children’s Charity

Fareway Stores, Inc. is partnering with Variety - the Children’s Charity to conduct the tenth annual Round Up at the register from June 29 – July 18 at all Fareway store locations.

During the campaign, customers can round up their purchase to the nearest dollar or make an additional donation at checkout to support Variety's mission of improving the lives of children who are underprivileged, at-risk, critically ill, or living with special needs.

Funds raised through the Fareway Round Up will help provide adaptive mobility equipment for children living with special needs, while also supporting impactful programs and grants that expand opportunities for children in need. Variety partners with physical therapists to identify children who would benefit from specialized equipment such as adaptive bicycles, gait trainers, standers, mobile standers, and other mobility devices. Donations also help fund grants for nonprofit organizations serving children and provide accessible vans that transport children to essential programs and activities.

To celebrate the launch of this year's campaign, Fareway's Ames store welcomed four-year-old Owen of Boone as he received his new adaptive bicycle. The Ames location was one of the top fundraising stores during last year's Round Up campaign.

Owen attends physical therapy at ChildServe in Ames, where he discovered a love for riding adaptive bikes during therapy sessions. His parents shared, "Owen has been able to trial a bike during physical therapy sessions, which has sparked an interest and competitive nature. He now asks for a bike so he can 'beat sissy.' This new bike will allow a small glimmer of typical sibling behavior for these two while also improving Owen's use of his legs and coordination."

With his own adaptive bike, Owen can now ride alongside his older sister, creating new opportunities for family fun while continuing to build strength, coordination, and independence.
