Ashley Okland Variety Star Playground at the Clive Greenbelt

The City of Clive and Variety – the Children’s Charity are proud to announce a partnership to install a new all-inclusive Ashley Okland Variety Star Playground in Clive. Variety’s newest playground will be located at Greenbelt Landing, a new park on the site of the Clive Aquatic Center.

The Variety Star Playground at Greenbelt Landing will be ramped for accessibility, have a poured-in-place rubber surface, and will provide opportunities for children and adults of all abilities to interact together through play. The playground will include shade canopies, play structures to promote core strength, harnessed swings, a saucer swing allowing children to lay flat to experience the sensation of swinging, musical play instruments, and other additional features.

Variety elected to build the Star Playground at Greenbelt Landing because of the park’s centralized location along the Clive Greenbelt and because it is currently the focus of a larger revitalization effort to the Clive Greenbelt. This larger project will transform the area around the Clive Aquatic Center with the addition of a new performance stage and festival grounds for community events, a stormwater wetland with boardwalk, a remodeled community building, a fully accessible fishing pier, and an ICON water trails access point. Variety hopes the Ashley Okland Star Playground project will infuse additional excitement and energy into the park overhaul.

“Greenbelt Landing represents a major reinvestment in the Clive Greenbelt, which is beloved by Clive residents and the reason that many people choose to live in Clive,” said Clive Mayor John Edwards, “I'm excited Variety has chosen to help make Greenbelt Landing a destination by building the fully inclusive Ashley Okland Star Playground here. The playground will be a unique and wonderful feature of the Greenbelt Landing area, and I look forward to seeing kids and families making memories when the playground is completed.”

Upon completion, the playground will be gifted to the City of Clive. The City’s Leisure Services Department will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep.

“Partnerships like this are a driving force in the development of our park system,” said Richard Brown, Leisure Services Director. “Working with an organization like Variety – the Children’s Charity on this new Ashley Okland Star Playground enables us to provide the residents of Clive and all visitors with new amenities that perhaps wouldn’t have been possible given limited financial resources. This playground at Greenbelt Landing will become a centerpiece of the larger reinvestment the City is making to the Clive Greenbelt in the coming years.”
