Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa is thrilled to announce that Jeff Lorenzen will serve as the honorary chair of the 51st annual Variety Telethon Fundraising Campaign. Jeff, a longstanding supporter of Variety and dedicated advocate for Iowa’s children, has been heavily involved with Variety for many years, serving on the organization’s board of directors and participating in numerous fundraising events. He is currently the CEO and President at American Equity. For over thirty years, American Equity has provided retirement services and financial security to its clients, and has generously supported the community through its charitable giving pillars focused on basic human needs.
Jeff recently generously sponsored a specialized bike for a young girl named Katana. Thanks to his sponsorship, Katana now has a specialized bike that will allow her to join in on family bike rides and explore local trails near her home. The bike will not only provide Katana with a sense of freedom and adventure, but will also help improve her balance and coordination.
Jeff shared his excitement about his role as honorary chair, saying, “I am excited to be involved with Variety once again and help lead Variety’s Telethon fundraising efforts. Variety has such a rich history of not only raising significant funds but making a lasting difference in the lives of Iowa’s children who need our help the most. I have seen first-hand how Variety’s efforts impact children in need, and I am ready to hit the ground running to raise awareness and support our local youth.”
The President of Variety’s Board of Directors, Danny Beyer, will work alongside Jeff to lead Variety’s fundraising efforts during this campaign. “I am delighted to have Jeff involved with Variety this Telethon year. I am looking forward to seeing how his passion for helping kids can help Variety have a more significant impact on children who are at-risk, underprivileged, critically ill, or living with special needs,” said Danny.
As Variety celebrates the 51st Telethon, we are proud to recognize Jeff’s invaluable contributions and look forward to his continued support in helping reach fundraising goals that will benefit children across Iowa.
About the Variety Telethon Fundraising Campaign: The Telethon is the foundation Variety was built upon and is the highlight of each year. Since the inception of the Telethon in 1975, Variety has raised more than $140+ million for Iowa’s children. For the first 46 years, the Variety Telethon lasted 16-24 hours and hosted a line-up of local and international celebrities who appeared on-air for, along with thousands of corporate volunteers and donors who pledged their ongoing time and support to Iowa’s children. Since then, the Variety Telethon has evolved into a one-hour, televised multi-million-dollar fundraiser that still highlights the many ways Variety helps Iowa’s children. Variety VIPs (Very Interested Persons) and corporate supporters continue to raise funds that will support Variety's mission of improving the lives of children who are at-risk, underprivileged, critically ill, or living with special needs. Variety’s Telethon fundraising efforts will cumulate on Saturday, March 1 at 7 PM when Local 5 – ABC will air the one-hour Telethon Spotlight Special, which will highlight Variety’s impact over the last year.
