Camp Hertko Hollow received a Variety Grant to help subsidize camp fees for all campers and provide financial assistance for campers demonstrating financial need. This support helps ensure all campers are able to attend camp, regardless of their financial situation. Supporting Iowa’s youth living with type 1 diabetes is important not only for the camper, but their family as well.
Camp Hertko Hollow's mission is to help make a difference in the life of a child living with type 1 diabetes by providing an educational, therapeutic, and recreational camping experience for Iowa’s youth. Through a positive camp experience, campers are able to take their skills learned at camp and apply them to their home and school life. Many campers learn and exemplify leadership skills that impact those around them and ultimately impacting their experience living with type 1 diabetes. Providing a camping experience for children with type 1 diabetes not only allows campers an opportunity to find independence and confidence in their management, but also allows them the opportunity to just be a kid at camp.
